UK-based Asda, the Wal-Mart owned retail group, has been awarded the Management Category award at this year's prestigious Business Commitment to the Environment (BCE) Environmental Leadership Awards, held on 30 June.
The annual awards, which recognise the importance of outstanding environmental excellence, innovation and leadership, are firmly established as the longest running and most influential of its type in the UK.
'Asda won the award for its continued commitment and common sense approach to reducing waste and tackling packaging reduction in its own brand product,' the retailer said in a statement.
Judges were said to be particularly impressed with the company's overall approach to going green, and making sustainability more accessible and more affordable for its customers.
