The Argentinean Blueberry Committee (ABC) has launched a European marketing campaign to promote Argentinean blueberries in the UK, France, Germany, Denmark and the Netherlands.
For the past three years, Argentinean blueberries have been promoted via the Blueberries from the South campaign together with Chile and Uruguay.
This new venture, meanwhile, is designed to highlight Argentina’s ability to provide the first off-season blueberries from the Southern Hemisphere.
Argentinean blueberries are available between September until the end of December ahead of the peak Chilean season in December.
The initiative also aims to highlight the quality and reliability of Argentinean exporters who are aligned to international standards and highly organised, with a robust supply chain to service all European markets.
The campaign features includes an online media centre to provide up-to-date information on Argentinean blueberries.
“The chief aim of the new campaign is to convey the high quality of Argentinean blueberries to the fresh produce industry, as well as the ongoing commitment of service we provide to all our markets,” ABC Manager, Inés Peláez.
“The campaign is an exciting step for us and we are optimistic, as this season started in week 35, when we shipped our first blueberries to Europe”.
Overall exports of Argentinean blueberries to the UK are estimated to total 2,600 tonnes this season, up by 4 per cent on last year’s 2,500 tonnes.
Volume earmarked for Continental Europe is also up by 46 per cent this season to 2,200 tonnes, compared with the previous season’s 1,500 tonnes.
Argentina mainly exports O’Neal, Emerald, Misty and Star blueberries.
