According to a new survey on the state of the apple in France, conducted by Ctifl, the technical centre for fruits and vegetables, the fruit’s image remains excellent in the eyes of the French public, with more young consumers appreciating its health benefits and importance in a balanced diet.
Golden Delicious remains the best known variety, as it was in the previous study in 2003, followed by Granny Smith and Reine des Reinettes, then Gala, the leading bicoloured variety.
According to the survey Pink Lady apples have doubled their notoriety over the last five years, reaching brand recognition of 30 per cent in 2008.
The report also found that more than two thirds of consumers eat apples at home between meals, far above the number that consume them outside the house.
