Company honoured by CIRIEC-Spain for its support of teaching of cooperativism and response to Dana

Anecoop, Spain’s leading second-tier cooperative, has been recognised by the International Centre for Research and Information on Public, Social, and Cooperative Economy (CIRIEC-Spain), for its support of university teaching and research in cooperativism and the social economy, as well as for its rapid mobilisation, commitment, and support for the reconstruction of the towns affected by last October’s devastating floods in Valencia.

Anecoop received this double recognition, along with Consum and Caixa Popular, within the framework of the 6th edition of the CIRIEC-Spain Awards for the Best Studies in Social Economy, sponsored by the Regional Ministry of Education, Culture, Universities, and Employment of the Valencian Government.

A total of 12 projects by undergraduate, master’s, and doctoral students from universities in the Valencian Community received awards at a ceremony held on Wednesday at the Faculty of Economics of the University of Valencia, where this tribute to cooperativism was paid.

Receiving the award, Anecoop president Alejandro Monzón said: “Knowledge and methodology, combined with experience and know-how, are a guarantee of success. The work carried out in the field of research lays the foundation for practical application, provides new avenues for action, and offers potential solutions to the challenges posed by the environment, the geopolitical context, and the climate situation.

“Therefore, the alliance between university and business is a sure bet that we at Anecoop will continue to support, promoting the cooperative model that fits perfectly with the social demands of companies and organisations with values and committed to the community”.

CIRIEC-Spain also recognised Anecoop for its charitable commitment, highlighting its immediate mobilisation after the Dana to put its resources at the service of those most in need and its support for the reconstruction of the affected areas. In this sense, according to Monzón, “we responded immediately because we are a company committed to society within a sector with a strong capacity to respond to emergency situations”.

Anecoop’s recognition comes in the year that the United Nations has declared the International Year of Cooperatives, under the slogan “Cooperatives build a better world”.
