The interprofessional organisation for fruits and vegetables of Alsace, on France’s eastern border, has just launched its annual “Alinova “ competition.

The idea of the contest is for participants to propose a new food product that is both highly nutritious and based on fruits and vegetables from the region.

At this week’s general assembly, students from the Université de Haute Alsace were due to present their projects for taste tests and evaluation to see who the winner for 2009 would be.

Last year’s winning product was an éclair-shaped pastry of salted cabbage filled with carrots, courgettes, onions, tomatoes and peppers.
