Dutch company Aartsen has taken delivery of its first ever cartons of Zespri kiwifruit, in its new role as an official distributor of the branded product in the Netherlands.
The consignment, which contained new-season SunGold kiwifruit from New Zealand, arrived on Thursday 22 April. It represents the start of what both companies hope will be a profitable partnership.
“Thanks to the partnership with Aartsen, Zespri will be increasing its market area in the Netherlands and ensure better availability and service for the buyers,” said a spokesperson for Aartsen. “This is how Aartsen and Zespri will realise their ambition and ensure that the market for kiwis in the Netherlands will continue to grow.”
Back in February, Zespri's head of sales for Europe, Sophie de Lantsheere, said the brand wanted to expand its distribution network with Aartsen in order to reach more consumers.
“We're very excited about our partnership with Aartsen,” she commented, adding that it would send “a strong signal” to the independent, speciality segment of the market.
“Although that doesn't mean the retail channel is any less important, we believe speciality shops are also essential,” she said. “The recommendations of the seller or fruit merchant are an important incentive for consumers to try a new product, especially in the fruit category. We are proud to see so many fruit traders acting as true Zespri ambassadors. And hope to work better with them in this way.”
