Toowoomba-based Stahmann Farms has launched an ecommerce site in China to push sales of Australian nuts to the growing middle-class market demanding premium products.
Stahmann Farms has launched a Chinese website and will also sell packaged tree nut products on Alibaba’s Tmall site under the Stahmann Farms brand.
'Domestically our major retailers are pushing their own brand which is contradictory and opposite to what's happening in China,” sales manager Andrew Waddell told ABC Rural. 'The Chinese consumer is very savvy, they will pay a premium for quality and they will pay a premium for a brand.'
The company has been exporting to China for several, but this is the first time the company will sell online, with the company planning to start with small volumes into the market to build its brand.
'We'll send a couple of containers a year, that's our goal and we do need to be profitable and profitable is hard in China as it's a very very competitive market,” Wadell said.
