Australia's Riverina citrus growers have once again been rated as the best quality supplier for Australian shipments of fruit into the US.
In a news release, Sue Brighenti, Riverina Citrus Board member and a local grower, said that the recognition was an amazing achievement for the region as a whole.
'Despite it being a tough year with increased competition from other countries in the southern hemisphere and the strong value of the Australian dollar, we managed to maintain our excellent supply of quality fruit,' she said. 'This is a marvellous result which we as an industry should be extremely proud of.'
Ms Brighenti outlined the enviable reputation of Riverina growers internationally, noting that successes such as this were a 'feather in the cap' of the region.
'This result is a credit not only to the growers but also to the packhouses whose professionalism is an invaluable contribution to the process,' she said.
