Fresh food supply chain management technology specialist Purfresh has introduced Total Active Environment, a new system designed to create and maintain the optimal conditions for different commodities during transport.
According to Purfresh, Total Active Environment combines and controls the full range of environmental elements, such as ozone, atmospheres, temperature and shock, as well as real-time monitoring of these factors and relative humidity.
The new solution allows the customer to optimise freshness, safety and shelf-life through customised container treatments, to match the commodity and varietal needs. It means that informed decisions about produce can be made with knowledge of actual shipping conditions, and it provides an alternative to airfreight with improved cold chain management and appropriate atmosphere.
'Different fruits and vegetables have unique needs and shelf life challenges, whether sensitivity to ethylene, susceptibility to mould, chilling injury, ripening control, etc,' said says Brian Westcott, CEO of Purfresh. 'Purfresh’s Total Active Environment provides the flexibility to meet these various needs, resulting in minimal shrink and optimised quality, nutritional value and shelf life.'
Purfresh's Intellipur provides control and monitoring to protect the substantial investment represented by a container of produce. with monitoring and control the key to the effective use of atmosphere, the group explained.
