Ryan Au has joined the Pink Lady Development team in the new role as South East Asia brand development manager.
Au will be based in his home country, Malaysia, and manage Pink Lady apple promotions as well as the brand’s growth in the region, offering someone on the ground, in the same time zone, to oversee developments.
Apple and Pear Australia’s (APAL) Garry Langford told Asiafruit that the new role, and new appointment, are part of Pink Lady’s commitment to supporting activity and growth in the region, rather than having someone manage the brand development from another country.
“We spent the last three to four years building a brand presence in Asia, with promotions in Singapore, Malaysia and Thailand,” said Langford. “The only real way to progress was to have someone engaged over there.”
Having stepped in to the new role on 4 August, Au will be heading up a delegation of Australian Pink Lady growers and exporters who are visiting Malaysia in late August, before attending Asia Fruit Logistica in Hong Kong.
Pink Lady Development is a joint venture between APAL, which owns the Pink Lady trademark in more than 80 territories across the globe, and Star Fruits Diffusion of France, APAL’s Pink Lady master licensee in Europe. The company oversees brand development in emerging markets as well as promotions and quality control for Pink Lady apples.
