Organica has become the first Vietnamese-based producer to receive organic certifaction from the European Union (EU) and the US Department of Agriculture (USDA), according to Tuoi Tre News.
The Ho Chi Minh City-based project, which operates an organic farm in the Dong Nai Province’s Long Thanh District, was recognised with organic farming certificates from both bodies at a ceremony on Wednesday (11 November). The ceremony followed an inspection by foreign experts from Dutch-based certification organisation Control Unionlate last month.
Control Unionleant its support to Organica when the project was launched in early 2013. Since then, Organica has grown its production base to accommodate almost 100 varieties of tropical fruit and vegetables across its 1.8ha farm.
The farm’s owner, Pham Phuong Thao, said the company would now focus on delivering its range of organic produce to the world.
“As we have completed the initial investment phase and obtain the certification, Organica is entering into a new development stage,” Thao told Tuoi Tre News. “From real-life experience in both failure and success in recent years, we will try to improve farming processes and beef up productivity to reduce future cost in order to take many more products to the market at better prices.”
