Te Mata Exports is looking to expand its product profile and market reach through a joint venture with MG Marketing.

The venture will see Te Mata retain a 50 per cent shareholding in the new company with the remaining 50 per held by MG. The company will trade under the Te Mata Exports moniker.

Murray Tait established Te Mata Exports in 2008 after seven years as the export manager with Pacific Harvest New Zealand. Since establishing Te Mata exports Tait has built up a successful apple export business with sales spanning all international markets.

The tie up is expected to enable Te Mata to explore the potential of a number of key products that should provide significant expansion for the business in the short term.

Meanwhile, MG will play an active procurement role in the business linking global business relationships that have been developed over many years, along with sourcing through its shareholder base.

“MG has to date had a limited role in New Zealand horticulture exports, but our goal is to become a significant player and this new partnership is the first step in that direction,” said MG international business manager Kerry Wells.

MG, a grower co-operative, is a dominant wholesaler in the New Zealand market and expanded its geographical spread into Australia in 2003 to become the first Australasian company present in all major metropolitan centers. In addition MG opened a California sourcing office for its Australasian businesses in 2003.
