Indian Alphonso mangoes

Indian consumers can now buy Alphonso mangoes from a home shopping channel.

According to a report on Sifynews, HomeShop18 will sell the fruit on its channel and deliver to 3,000 cities and towns across India.

The mangoes would be sold in a packs of either six or 12, with six costing Rs435 (US$9.75), and 12 retailing for Rs750. The retailer said the freshness of the product was guaranteed.

“In our efforts to reach mango lovers directly, we are delighted to introduce Alphonso mangoes as we enter the market for selling fresh fruits,” HomeShop18 CEO Sundeep Malhotra said in a media release. “With this venture of ours we aim to take the industry to the next level,” he added.

“Advances in the areas of fresh fruit sales are opening up the avenues for many niche market segments, and HomeShop18 sees a potential high growth area here, thus this new business initiative,” he said. “Recognising the evolving needs of our consumers, we have expanded our product portfolios and operations across the country.”

The mangoes could be ordered through the 24-hour television channel, or through the company's website.
