The Pakistan mango import season has kicked off in Malaysia, with promotions underway at 30 hypermarkets across the South East Asian country.
The Pakistan High Commission launched the ‘festival of mangoes’ at Econsave, Aeon, Giant and Mydin retailers in Malaysia on 1 August, with more promotions to reach Penang stores in the near future.
'Annually, Pakistan grows almost 2m tonnes of mangoes and is the sixth largest producer in the world. For past two years, we have introduced different types of mangoes, namely 'Sindhri' mangoes, and this time, 'Chaunsa' mangoes to Malaysian consumers,” Pakistan High Commissioner to Malaysia, Syed Hasan Raza told Bernama.
'If we are able to bring all the varieties of mangoes to Malaysia, I am sure we can very easily export 10,000 to 15,000 tonnes to Malaysia, which are huge numbers.”
Part of the focus of the promotions is to raise consumer awareness around Pakistani mangoes, while selling them at competitive prices.
