Asiafruit’s Lunar New Year edition breaks down the latest trends ahead of Asia’s most prominent holiday period. Leading importers and retailers share insights into the state of the China market in the lead-up to the festivities. Bree Caggiati explores why imported products, including Tasmanian cherries, US apples and Korean strawberries have become increasingly popular in Vietnam ahead of the Tet festivities and Winnie Wang speaks with Penny Chang of Carrefour Taiwan on the retailer’s double-digit growth of imported produce. Despite a sluggish economy, China is showing encouraging signs that the fresh fruit trade will improve somewhat for the Year of the Snake.  

Headlining the edition is a keynote interview with Ye Canjiang, chaiman of China’s Guangzhou Jiangnan Fruit and Vegetable Wholesale Market. The market celebrated its 30th anniversary this year and in the exclusive interview, Canjiang shares some of the company’s many achievements as well as its plans for the future.  

Australia is in the spotlight with an interview with Hort Innovation’s CEO Brett Fifield and Avocados Australia CEO John Tyas following their win of Marketing Campaign of the Year at the 2024 Asia Fruit Awards. The pair unpack the multi-pronged marketing campaign that saw Australian avocados reach multiple markets across Asia. Australia is also set to see growth across the stonefruit category off the back of greater access to Vietnam, while its table grape industry has announced a landmark marketing campaign which aims to increase awareness over the next three years.  

Liam O’Callaghan shares a roundup of the Summit in Chile – organised by Fruit Logistica and Asia Fruit Logistica, in partnership with ProChile and Fruitnet – held in Santiago on 22 October. The event was the first in a roadshow of Meet Ups held to showcase industry innovation, deepen connections in key markets, and build even greater momentum for Fruit Logistica and Asia Fruit Logistica in 2025.
