India’s IG International has welcomed the arrival of the first premium cherries from Chile. The container, supplied by grower-exporter Subsole, reached Mumbai on 22 January. According to an IG International release, sales have since soared, and Indian consumers have responded positively to the quality and taste of the premium cherries.

“The response from the Indian market has been phenomenal,” said IG Internation chief sourcing officer, Shubha Rawal. “This milestone highlights the potential of Chilean cherries to become a mainstay in the fresh produce landscape in India. At IG, we are committed to bringing world-class produce to Indian consumers, and Subsole has been an incredible partner in this journey.”

The strong opening reflects the growing confidence of Indian buyers in a more premium offering. Subsole has been at the forefront of this movement, introducing and expanding new categories of fruits into India.

“India is a growing market for premium fruits, and we are proud to partner with IG International to bring Chilean cherries to discerning Indian consumers,” said Subsole commercial manager – sales, Gonzalo Gajardo. “The success of this first shipment underlines the immense potential for further collaboration and growth in this category.”

IG International and Subsole have said they are committed to continuing this trend toward more premium categories and strengthening the Indian fresh produce industry with innovative and high-quality fruit.
