The US Department of Agriculture (USDA) has announced that sweet cherry growers in Washington State are to vote on whether to continue their federal marketing order.

The vote, which will take place between 5-18 November this year, will pass if either two-thirds of growers vote or producers accounting for two-thirds of the volume of cherries represented in the referendum vote to continue the order, the USDA said.

A continuance referendum must be held once every six years, with growers who produced sweet cherries in designated Washington state counties during the period 1 April 2010 to 31 March 2011 eligible to vote.
