Market demand for premium crops including berries, tomatoes, peppers and salads is said to be increasing
Dutch greenhouse experts from the HortiRoad2India public-private partnership head to Bengaluru, Delhi, Mumbai and Chennai in India this April to explore new opportunities to help growers in the country to develop year-round production of fresh produce.
According to the group, the Indian market shows increasing demand for safe, residue-free, and high-quality fresh produce.
With smart technology and strong partnerships, it says, these products can be grown locally, using fewer resources, with less waste, and better shelf-life. “The Netherlands is globally recognised for its efficient, high-output greenhouse horticulture systems,” it says in a statement.
“Through HortiRoad2India, Dutch companies are ready to co-develop new food systems tailored for India’s retail, food service and export sectors.”HortiRoad2India is led by Dutch Greenhouse Delta, Innovation Quarter and Rotterdam partners, and supported by the government of the Netherlands.
In each city, the delegation plans to work closely with local agri-entrepreneurs, retailers, investors, and government representatives to strengthen what they regard as promising horticulture projects.
Those visits include Fresh Produce India, Fruitnet’s flagship event, which takes place at the Trident Hotel in Mumbai on 3-4 April. Click here for more information on how to attend the event.
During a specially arranged session, representatives will discuss Indo-Dutch high-value crop projects and explore how crops like strawberries, cherry tomatoes, lettuce, peppers, and microgreens can be grown sustainably in India for the premium market.
“We’ll present projects and invite retailers and hospitality stakeholders to co-develop supply models with guaranteed quality and availability,” the group notes.
Also included in the tour is a visit to the Nabard Finance Summit in Mumbai.
