Shepard avocado crop opens 2025 season with Hass avocados expected in April
The Australian avocado season has officially launched with Shepard avocados leading the charge in South-East Asia.
To mark the occasion, and drive continued export growth, industry body Avocados Australia hosted a launch roadshow across Malaysia, Singapore, and Hong Kong.
The first arrival of Australian avocados for 2025 at the wholesale market in Kuala Lumpur on 3 March was welcomed by distinguished guests including the deputy high commissioner to Malaysia, Simon Fellows; agriculture counsellor Kate Makin; and trade commissioner, Gregory Harvey.
The launch was followed by a knowledge-sharing and networking session at The Majestic Hotel, attended by over 60 participants.
As the season progresses, Hass avocados are expected to be available as soon as April from North Queensland. The Central Queensland harvest will follow and, moving counterclockwise around the country, progress throughout the rest of Australia’s growing regions ending in the southern parts of Western Australia.
According to Avocados Australia, these diverse growing regions ensure consistent 12-month availability for both local and international markets, allowing retailers, foodservice operators, and consumers to enjoy fresh Australian avocados throughout the year. With growing demand for avocados in key export markets, the industry body said the industry is focused on supporting category expansion by delivering a reliable, premium product backed by strong supply chain management.
“The Australian avocado industry remains committed to supporting growers, exporters, retailers, and consumers through investment in market development, technical expertise, and supply chain innovation,” Avocados Australia said. “Industry-led initiatives focus on expanding customer awareness, knowledge sharing with trade partners, and enhancing post-harvest handling techniques to maximise fruit robustness and reduce waste.”
