The first consignment of Vietnamese Cat Chu mangoes has arrived in Japan, with promotions at Aeon’s shopping centre in Tokyo’s Chiba prefecture.
The sweet, yellow-skinned mango, grown in the south of Vietnam were sold for ¥389 (US$3.15) to ¥598 ($4.85) each, according to Tuoi Tre News, with around 100 tonnes of the Cat Chy mangoes to be exported to Japan before the end of the year.
Vietnam gained access to Japan for fresh mangoes earlier this year – the second fresh fruit to be allowed in after Vietnamese dragon fruit was granted access in 2009.
