Onions Australia has flagged a high-quality season of Queensland onions to be available from the end of October, with leading retailers telling the industry body that imported onions would take a back foot.
“We have undertaken a national education campaign to alert both retailers and consumers that Australia has a plentiful supply of our own locally grown onions,” said chairperson Kees Versteeg. “Australian onions are grown in the safest conditions, with our growers adhering to the strictest production standards second to none.
“Australian onions are available year round because our growers have worked hard to ensure supply, with Queensland kicking off the season, followed within weeks by the other growing states of Australia.”
Onions Australia’s annual conference will take place in Melbourne this year, on 15 and 16 October, featuring a mini trade show and a tour of the new fruit and vegetable wholesale market in Epping.
