The Food Taipei Mega Shows 2024 brought together over 1,600 local and overseas exhibitors on 26-29 June. With nearly 4,500 booths showcasing their products and services, the event enjoyed a 10 per cent increase in exhibitor numbers compared to last year and a 6 per cent expansion in the exhibition area, according to the organiser, Taiwan External Trade Development Council (TAITRA). Such growth signifies the resurgence of Taiwan’s food sector and underscores its significant potential.

Taking place in Hall 1 and Hall 2 at the Taipei Nangang International Exhibition Center, the Mega Shows include FoodTaipei, Foodtech Taipei, Bio/Pharmatech Taiwan, TaipeiPack, and Taiwan Horeca.

The total visitor number exceeded 50,000 in four days. Among them, more than 5,000 international buyers from over 77 different countries/regions came to make the most of the opportunities to meet and do business with the exhibitors at the shows this year. The top five countries/regions represented were Japan, Korea, Malaysia, Hong Kong and the Philippines.

TAITRA chairman James Huang highlighted that this year’s show featured national pavilions from 22 countries, including Eswatini, Saint Lucia, the US, Malaysia, Japan, South Korea and the Czech Republic. Spain also returned after a five-year absence.

In order to create business opportunities for exhibitors, multiple meetings were conducted during the show days. A total of 855 meetings were arranged, which allowed 149 international buyers to negotiate with Taiwanese exhibitors.

Embracing the future

Food Taipei Mega Shows 2024 focused on two main themes this year - Food for Future and Food Safety & Sustainability. In collaboration with the Food industry Research and Development institute, TAlTRA set up a Future Food Pavilion where visitors could explore innovative products and technology under three core concepts: Low Carbon Food, Smart Precision Tech, and Circular Sustainability.

A standout feature of this year’s trade show was the incorporation of AI into the food industry. Prominent companies like Beckhoff, ifm, ANStek, and Chieftek Precision (CPC) presented technologies in automation, monitoring, and miniature robotic arms. These advances are designed to improve transparency in the food supply chain, ensure food safety and quality, maintain productivity, and help businesses remain competitive in the market.

This year, under the theme Share Taiwan Agriculture with the World, 92 top-quality Taiwanese domestic exhibitors were featured. The pavilion was divided into five main exhibition areas: Exquisite Agricultural Products Zone, Livestock and Poultry ProductsZone, Seafood Products Zone, Age-Friendly Products Zone, and Rural Good Products Zone. Wan Shen, The Green Farm, Wei-I Foodstuff, Fuyah were among the companies that displayed creative products from rural communities across Taiwan.

The Food Taipei Mega Shows served as a platform of opportunities for food industry leaders around the world and contributes to the continued growth of the global food market. The Mega Shows will return to Taipei next year, taking place on 25-28 June 2025 at Nangang International Exhibition Center, Hall 1 and Hall 2.
