More than 500 students from the greater Auckland region are set to visit the Kumeu Showgrounds tomorrow to learn about prospective careers in agriculture.
The ‘Food and You Careers Experience Day’ is a day for students to get an in depth look at food value and supply chain stories and gain an understanding of the range of work opportunities available to them in the agriculture industry.
This includes interactive sessions with leading industry organisations including Fonterra, DairyNZ, Beef + Lamb NZ, FarmIQ, and AgResearch.
Students will also attend lectures with guest speakers from Massey University, Lincoln University and Taratahi Training Centre on topics such as animal production, engineering, horticulture, machinery and food science.
“The details for the process of food getting from the pasture to the plate are often overlooked,” Richard Fitzgerald, chief executive officer of New Zealand Young Farmers, told the Auckland Scoop. “As a result, the array of career options involved within the agriculture industry also often go unnoticed.
“It is vital to support the youth of today in order to develop the agriculture industry of tomorrow.”
