Apple and Pear Australia (APAL) has appointed Dr Michele Allan as the new chair of the peak industry body, effective 1 January 2015.
Allan joins the APAL Board on the back of a successful career as a CEO and is involved with a number of agricultural organisations, including chair of Meat and Livestock Australia and a director of Grain Growers and Tasmanian Irrigation.
Allan will succeed John Lawrensen, who joined APAL as a director in 2005 and as chairman from 2011.
“The APAL Board is very pleased to have Michele join APAL,” said Lawrensen, who will remain chair over the coming months to aid the transition before he retires. “Her experience as an independent chair, her extensive networks in the agriculture sector and government as well as her finely tuned commercial skills and financial nous will serve the apple and pear industry well.”
