Facility on New Zealand’s South Island is now surplus to requirements, company tells local newspaper
Turners & Growers (T&G) Global is to close its coldstorage centre in Dunedin, New Zealand, a report in the Otago Daily Times has revealed.
The company’s national head of post-harvest Craig Kenny told the newspaper that the site was “no longer required for our operations”.
Located on the north bank of Otago Harbour, close to the city centre, the Dunedin Depot facility on Fryatt Street opened in 1993 and was used mainly for apples grown in Central Otago, on New Zealand’s South Island.
In April 2021, the group completed the construction of a new 1,500m2 coldstore in Ettrick, two hours north-west of Dunedin.
According to Kenny, all staff at the coldstore have been offered employment elsewhere in T&G or alternatively help to find other jobs in Dunedin itself.
