Van der Hoeven oversees construction of facility, which is set to incorporate traditional and semi-closed greenhouse technologies
Commercial greenhouse developer Van der Hoeven Horticultural Projects and seed breeder Rijk Zwaan have embarked on the construction of a new seed production facility in Australia.
Fruitnet understands the centre, which is located near Melbourne, will produce a range of hybrid seeds that will then be shipped to Rijk Zwaan in its home country the Netherlands for processing and sales.
According to Van der Hoeven, it will feature both traditional and semi-closed greenhouse technologies designed to ensure optimal cooling and pest control.
“Van der Hoeven Horticultural Projects and Rijk Zwaan have been working together to develop advanced horticultural solutions worldwide,” it said. “Their long-standing partnership is built on trust, shared goals, and a commitment to delivering the highest quality in every project.”
Founded in 1987 Rijk Zwaan Australia is based in Daylesford, Victoria, and employs approximately 80 staff, working across vegetable seed sales, research and development, and seed production.
Van der Hoeven has worked with Rijk Zwaan to develop similar sites across the world, in countries including Tanzania, Turkey, Australia and the Netherlands.
“Van der Hoeven consistently delivers advanced greenhouse solutions that support Rijk Zwaan’s seed production and horticultural advancements,” the group added. “This global partnership underscores their shared commitment to innovation and excellence in horticulture.”
