New West Coast service out of Mexico set to offer region’s exporters closer connection to services across Pacific
Shipping company CMA CGM is to launch a new weekly service from January that links several ports on the west coast of Central America, and therefore puts them in a better position to use onward connections to Asia.
The Maya Service will run on a rotation out of Lazaro Cardenas in Michoacán, Mexico, calling at Puerto Caldera in Costa Rica, Corinto in Nicaragua, Acajutla in El Salvador, and Puerto Quetzal in Guatemala.
Starting 2 January 2025, two ships – first MV Surabaya and then MV Magdalena Schulte – will provide the direct weekly service.
The new service should provide valuable support for the region’s fruit export trades.
Key fruit exports from the region that stand to benefit include bananas, pineapples, avocados, mangoes, blueberries, grapes and citrus.
