Brazil’s fresh produce industry is targeting new sales in Europe, Asia and North America, with exporters backing renewed efforts to drive exports via the promotional vehicle Frutas do Brasil.

Under a new agreement between trade promotion body ApexBrasil and industry association Abrafrutas, the project’s future development was officially approved earlier this week in the capital Brasilia, at a ceremony attended by the country’s president Luiz Inácio Lula da Silva.

Speaking at the event, Abrafrutas president Guilherme Coelho addressed Lula directly. He highlighted the Brazilian fruit sector’s “enormous potential” and emphasised its crucial role in generating jobs and strengthening the national economy.

“Brazilian fruit production plays an essential role in job creation and social inclusion, in addition to being a driving force for the growth of agribusiness exports,” he said.

“The partnership with ApexBrasil, through the Frutas do Brasil project, is essential for us to further expand our presence in the global market.”

According to Abrafrutas, the Frutas do Brasil partnership with ApexBrasil plays a fundamental role to promote Brazilian fruits abroad.

The signing of this week’s agreement is seen as a way to reinforce that commitment.

“With the support of these new initiatives, a significant expansion of the presence of Brazilian fruits in strategic markets, such as Europe, Asia and the United States, is expected.”
