South African fresh produce company ZZ2 has been crowned as Shoprite Group’s 2024 fruit and vegetable supplier of the year.

Pieter van Zyl, general manager of procurement at Shoprite’s Freshmark division, praised the company’s achievement.

“ZZ2’s victory shines as a testament to their unwavering dedication, innovative farming techniques, sustainable practices, and drive to build and maintaining collaborative relationships,” he commented.

He added that those attributes had helped Shoprite maintain its position as the largest and fastest growing food retailer on the African continent.

“This prestigious award reflects ZZ2’s ability to consistently deliver exceptional produce that meet the high standards demanded by both ourselves and our consumers,” he continued.

“The entire ZZ2 team is to be commended. Their hard work has paid off in winning this significant award, and it stands as an inspiration to others within the agricultural community.”

The award was presented to ZZ2 chief executive officer Tommie van Zyl at a special ceremony at the Vergelegen Wine Estate in Somerset West.
