The 2011/12 European season for Zespri's Gold kiwifruit, grown in Italy and France, begins this week, with the crop expected to be down on the past six years to 1.25m trays.
According to Zespri Europe's announcement, fruit size profile looks promising with high Brix and dry matter levels at harvest, with taste and storage potential expected to be 'very good'.
Marketing and communication activities are planned to support Zespri sales throughout the European campaign, with tailor-made promotions planned in Italy, Germany, Spain and the Benelux nations.
'In that last region, we follow up the success of the past European season and have, in collaboration with our distributors in Belgium, planned a sales activity for wholesalers,' the group noted.
In Italy, Spain and Benelux, Zespri will support all levels of trade with attractive promotions, with several different activities at wholesale markets to support the outlets selling Zespri kiwifruit, with the goal of supplying an increased number of shops with a new selection of point-of-sale material for permanent use.
'Consumers choose Zespri for the consistent quality and impeccable taste and we look forward to the season,' Zespri added.
