Worldwide Fruit has revealed that it was recognised with the Plan A Food Supplier of the Year Award at the recent Marks & Spencer (M&S) Plan A conference and awards ceremony, with the retailer recognising the group's investment in efficiency and quality while reducing energy consumption.

At the ceremony, the award was presented to Worldwide Fruit's business unit manager Hannah Mcilfatrick by M&S chief executive Marc Bolland, and Joanna Lumley, who is the celebrity face of the M&S Plan A initiative.

'Worldwide Fruit has invested in ways to increase production efficiency and product quality while reducing energy consumption,' an M&S statement said, praising the company's commitment to Plan A. 'The company's employees benefit from extensive training while growers are encouraged to adopt environmental best practices and generate improvements.'

Worldwide Fruit, which supplies M&S with apples, pears and avocados, was 'delighted' to pick up the award, according to its chief executive Robert Balicki.

'We are immensely proud to have won this award and would like to thank our WFL colleagues, our suppliers and our growers for their hard work and dedication to our sustainability agenda,' he noted.

Through Plan A, M&S is working with customers and suppliers to combat climate change, reduce waste, use sustainable raw materials, trade ethically, and help customers lead healthier lifestyles.
