The world's first driverless mobile grocery store could soon be just a touch of a button away, according to the company behind what is one of the world’s most eye-catching and ambitious fresh produce delivery projects.
Robomart, an automated delivery vehicle designed to bring retail convenience direct to consumers, is now poised to go from concept to reality with the news that its developer is preparing to make the first unit available.
The California-based startup suggests shoppers will be able to call the closest Robomart via a smartphone app. On arrival, they can unlock the unit and take what they want; on closing the doors, checkout-free technology will charge their account accordingly.
“Robomart is not just a concept,” the group says in its latest promotional video. “It’s here today and will be rolling out soon.”
Describing the vehicle as the world’s “most accessible” grocery store, what is especially striking is the disruptive approach Robomart is taking towards a business already being reshaped by some of the world’s most famous disruptors.
'As easy as Amazon, as quick as über. Just grab what you need and go, and you automatically get checked out,“ the group explains.
