NZ Gold Kiwifruit

Several more gold kiwifruit orchards in the Te Puke region of New Zealand have been hit by the Psa-V disease following a wet Christmas period, according to Kiwifruit Vine Health Health general manager John Burke.

Burke said that orchards that had initially looked likely to produce a crop had seen the severity of the disease increase due to the wet weather, the Bay of Plenty Times reported.

The total number of infected orchards in the country stands at 939, bolstered by 11 newly infected orchards discovered in the past week.

'It is a lot worse in Te Puke and appears to be a matter of the density of orchards, the high inoculum loading and the recent rainfall as well,' he told the publication.
