Belgium-based discount retail group Colruyt has reported that sales increased 6.6 per cent during the first quarter of the year, rising to €1.7bn.
A poll of Reuters analysts had anticipated that first-quarter revenues would hit €1.66bn.
According to the group's financial statement, the positive figures were the result of a boom in summer product sales following warm and sunny weather through the quarter, and a continued consumer focus on cheaper-priced options.
'Through the consistent implementation of its lowest priced strategy, Colruyt continued to gain market share,' the group said.
