Greg Foran, the former head of food, liquor and petrol at Australian supermarket chain Woolworths, has this week stepped into a new role with US retail giant Walmart.
Mr Foran began this week after moving to Walmart’s headquarters in Bentonville in the US.
After his resignation from Woolworths was announced in July, some industry insiders speculated he would find his way to a senior position in Asia.
A retail industry expert told Fruitnet.com today that might still be a possibility through Walmart, given the resignation earlier this week of Walmart’s China CEO Ed Chan as well as the earlier departure of Senior Vice President of Human Resources Clara Wong.
Mr Foran departed Woolworths after reportedly being passed up to take over from outgoing CEO Michael Luscombe, a position that was given to Grant O’Brien.
Tjeerd Jegen, currently the CEO of Tesco Malaysia, is set to replace Mr Foran as Woolworths’ supermarket head by the end of the year.
