The world’s largest retailer Walmart has announced in a news statement a series of changes to its US-based operations in an effort to drive greater efficiencies and lower the cost of goods to help accelerate growth.

As part of the move, Walmart plans to align its three US operating divisions – Logistics, Real Estate and Store Operations – under one leadership team, and organise into three geographic units – Walmart West, Walmart South and Walmart North – each with its own president.??“Over the last three years, we have made significant changes in our business to further strengthen our price leadership, improve the merchandise assortments that we offer to our customers and upgrade the shopping experience in our stores,” said Walmart US vice-chairman Eduardo Castro-Wright in a message to associates.

“It is now time to escalate these efforts – to switch to high gear – by leveraging our size and global scale to drive greater efficiencies and lower the cost of goods to help accelerate growth.”

The first of these structural changes comprises the integration of Walmart’s Realty Division with Store Operations and Logistics under the leadership of Bill Simon, executive vice-president (EVP) and chief operating officer of Walmart US.

As a result of this realignment, effective 1 February, Eric Zorn, EVP and president of Walmart Realty, will now report to Mr Simon.

Raúl Vazquez, meanwhile, has been promoted to EVP and president of Walmart West. Mr Vazquez was most recently president and CEO of Walmart.com. Under his leadership, the team established a strong foundation for our e-commerce strategy, the fastest-growing marketplace segment.

Leading Walmart South as EVP and president is Rosalind Brewer. Before her promotion, Ms Brewer was president of the Southeast division for Walmart US where she led a business and people transformation in that division.

Hank Mullany has been promoted EVP and president of Walmart North. Mr Mullany was previously president of the Northeast division of Walmart US and under his leadership the division grew into one of our best performing, highest growth businesses.

And finally, Eric Zorn, president of Walmart Realty, and Johnnie Dobbs, EVP of Logistics will continue to drive functional excellence and global leadership in their respective areas. Mr Zorn and Mr Dobbs have built world-class organisations for Walmart. Their roles will be expanded further as Walmart aligns its operating groups.
