Walmart has announced the appointment of Lav Khasis, the former head of Russia's leading grocery retailer X5 Group.
Khasis has been appointed as a senior vice-president and chief leverage officer, reporting directly to Walmart International chief executive Doug McMillon.
However, the move does not signal any immediate plans to enter the Russian market, something Walmart has long been linked with.
'To my knowledge, Walmart has no plans on entering the country in the short term,' Mr Khasis told reporters.
