Wal-Mart Neighborhood Store

Walmart will today (7 January) open three new Neighborhood Markets in Clearwater, Fla., Norfolk, Va. and Springdale, Ark., according to a company press statement.

Customers in Florida will find their favorite brands and fresh produce, including fruits and vegetables grown in the Sunshine state, when Walmart’s new 39,729-square-foot outlet opens in Clearwater at 8am local time.

“Our customers will be able to find familiar brands and local products at great values, right in their own neighborhood,” said store manager Kody Daley. “We will have a variety of fresh produce that is grown within the state of Florida, including tomatoes, greens, cilantro, chillies, avocados and oranges.”

The opening of a 45,000-square-foot Walmart Neighborhood Market in Norfolk marks Walmart’s first Virginia-based store. Focusing on fresh food, the outlet is approximately one-fifth the size of a Supercenter, and features small specialty areas with track lighting and curved walls for produce, meats, and a deli.

In Northwest Arkansas, meanwhile, Walmart’s newest Neighborhood Market in Springdale also carries a full line of groceries, including a large produce section with items displayed in wooden bins and crates to create the feel of a local farmers’ market.

With more than 145 stores in operation in the US, the Walmart Neighborhood Market is the company’s youngest store concept, providing consumers the Walmart value in a smaller, convenient “neighborhood” store format.

The concept first launched in 1998 in the company’s hometown of Bentonville, Arkansas, and there are now more than 145 locations, chiefly in the south.
