Wal-Mart Neighborhood Store

US retail giant Wal-Mart is stepping up its bid to establish a wider appeal to the Hispanic community with plans to open new small-format Supermercado stores, as well as launching a Latino-focused version of its Sam's Club warehouse concept.

According to a report in the Financial Times, Phoenix and Houston will be the locations for the first Hispanic-focused supermarkets, with the rest located in 'strongly Hispanic neighbourhoods,' the group said.

The stores will boast new layouts and designs, as well as a unique product assortment to appeal directly to local Hispanic customers, while staff will be bilingual.

The first two stores in Phoenix and Houston will be located in two former Wal-mart Neighbourhood Market stores, with a floor space of 3,623m2.
