US-based retail operator Wal-Mart has reportedly started trialling its first online grocery shopping and delivery service on the US West Coast following rumours earlier this month.

The so-called ‘Wal-Mart To Go’ service is being rolled out in San Jose, California, Wal-Mart spokesperson Ravi Jariwala told local media.

According to Mr Jariwala, local consumers can order groceries and consumables found in-store by visiting Walmart.com and the selected products will then be delivered to their homes.

“The test, ‘Wal-Mart To Go’, allows customers to visit Walmart.com to order groceries and consumables found in a Walmart store – including fresh produce, meat and seafood, frozen, bakery, baby, over the counter pharmacy, household supplies and health and beauty products,” Mr Jariwala said.

Wal-Mart will then deliver the goods to customers’ homes the next day at a chosen one-, two- or four-hour window – and even up to three weeks in advance.
