According to a study conducted by TNS Worldpanel, purchases of fruit and vegetables in France experienced a drop in volume in 2008, but still saw an increase in value.
Although volume sales fell by 0.6 per cent, rising prices resulted in an overall increase of 2.2 per cent in value terms.
Household spending on fruit jumped by 4.9 per cent, despite a marked drop in volumes sold, while purchases of vegetables rose for a second consecutive year, by 1 per cent in volume.
The study also revealed that sales of fresh-cut products fell by 8 per cent in both volume and value.
