The annual Medfel exhibition, which provides a meeting place for the Mediterranean region’s fresh produce professionals, took place last week in the southern French town of Perpignan, recording a 13 per cent increase in visitor numbers.
Organisers stated that 4,894 visitors attended the show, which this year welcomed Egypt as its country of honour and citrus as its product focus, including 141 international buyers from 40 countries.
Meanwhile, 225 fresh fruit and vegetable producers, carriers and logistics specialists exhibited at the event.
Esra Söyleyen, of Turkish exporter and exhibitor Aksun, commented during the exhibition: “The fair has been excellent, with a lot of VIP buyers from the Mediterranean region. We will definitely be coming back next year. It is nice to meet all these people face to face. We want to promote our whole range of products, both here in France and in the rest of the region.”
Franco-Moroccan producer Azura was also on hand to show off its new products, including the mixed, varicoloured cherry tomato shaker, which the company launched in Berlin in February. “This product is a response to what our customers have been demanding,” said the company’s head of marketing and communication, Odile Lavail.
According to Medfel’s organisers, 3,840 business-to-business meetings were organised during the fair, in addition to the European stonefruit forecasts from Europêch’.
