Fresh vegetable growers association Versdirect.nl and fellow Dutch vegetable supply cooperative Best Growers Benelux (BGB) are to merge, it has been announced.
Eurofruit understands that members of the two organisations gave their provisional approval to the plans during a specially convened meeting at the end of October.
Should the merger go ahead, it would create a producer organisation with around 570ha of glasshouse vegetable production and a further 265ha of open-field production.
'Both companies have set as their primary goal an improvement in the affiliated companies' sales and revenue situation, as well as the ability to offer a broad range of products for our close trading partners,' said a spokesperson for Versdirect.nl.
The group said it would continue to work as before with a number of Dutch trading and export companies, including Haluco (part of Total Produce), Combilo, Levarht & Zonen and Scherpenhuizen.
