Belgian fruit and vegetable exporter Vergro has struck an agreement to acquire Sint-Truiden-based D&G Fruit, a family business founded in the 1960s and a specialist in the production of Conference pears, apples and cherries, according to dVO.
Vergro, which was established in 1968, opened its own branch in Sint-Truiden in 2003, located in the same industrial zone as D&G Fruit.
The acquisition is one of several made by Vergro over the years, including the 1996 takeover of Vanmarcke Roger & Zonen in Meulebeke, after which Germany became the company’s number one market.
With this latest acquisition, Vergro is set to acquire its own production operation, while D&G Fruit will be guaranteed an efficient distribution channel.
