Global produce trader Vanguard International is harvesting its first crop from Peru following its acquisition of Challapampa.
Since acquiring the leading Peruvian producer of grapes, citrus and pomegranates in April 2016, Vanguard said its premium produce is highly sought after globally.
One of the standouts is the Red Globe grape brand Red Tiger, which is one of the top five brands in China and across Asia, according to Juan Luis Obach, sales manager Vanguard China.
“Demand for our products is extremely high this year and this is testament to the great customer relationships Challapampa has developed since 2007,” Obach said. “Demand is also very strong for our proprietary seedless [grape] varieties in North America and Korea.”
While the cold and foggy weather in Ica, where Challapampa is based, limited quantity of produce available to its customers, Vanguard Peru’s general manager Manuel Yzaga said the team was still focused on bringing quality product to the market, and focused on bringing Vanguard’s customers the best produce.
Vanguard is further investing in Challapampa, and in other agricultural holdings in Peru, including putting in new plantings of seedless grape varieties to ensure a 52-week supply of quality fresh produce.
Founded in 2007 by Frank Michell and Darío Núñez, Challapampa has become a leading supplier to the global market, with brands including Red Tiger, Golden Horse, Silver Horse, Sweet Crane and Pampa Fresh.
