Valencia’s regional government has confirmed this week that it is set to spend €1.5m during the course of this season cleaning up citrus plantations in the province affected by the citrus virus, Tristeza.
The authority plans to subsidise affected growers and communities to the tune of €3,100 per hectare, according to Infoagro. Citrus growers will be given two months to prepare their applications for a share of the subsidy and must pull out all plants in the affected plots.
The Tristeza virus typically attacks citrus trees, causing production to fall and the plants to decay, before finally causing the death of the trees.
