The Chilean fresh fruit industry has gained increased access to the US fresh fruit market, according to the US Department of Agriculture’s Animal and Plant Health Inspection Service (USDA-APHIS).

The agency said it is advising the US general public of its decision to begin issuing permits to allow imports of fresh pomegranates and fresh baby kiwifruit from Chile into the continental US.

Based on the findings of pest risk analyses, which were made available to the public for review and comment through a previous notice, APHIS said it has determined that the application of one or more designated phytosanitary measures will be sufficient to mitigate the risk of introducing or disseminating plant pests into the continental US

Notice of this action was published in yesterday’s 12 May Federal Register and became effective upon publication.
