Trade intelligence company Zepol has announced in a press release that US import shipment volumes (in TEUS) for June dropped by 4.57 per cent in June on the May figure, and 7.4 per cent year-on-year.

According to a news release, the total number of shipments also decreased 4.79 per cent from May and more than 6 per cent from June 2010, with TEUS up 4.8 per cent this year over last year.

The overall June decrease was driven by a drop of 6 per cent in shipments from Asia, with Central American and South American numbers also down, although Europe looked promising with a slight import decrease of only 0.14 per cent.

The Pacific, South Atlantic and Mid-Atlantic ports in the US each showed a decrease of 6.18 per cent, 2.93 per cent and 5.34 per cent, respectively, of incoming shipments, Zepol said.

Maersk Line maintained the number one carrier spot, although the group noted a 4.53 per cent decrease in TEUs from May.
