Argentina’s new US agriculture attaché, Melinda Sallyards, arrived in the lemon-growing area of Tucumán on Tuesday 30 November to familiarise herself with the production characteristics of the region.
On her first day in Tucumán, Councellor Sallyards reportedly held a meeting to discuss the re-entry of Tucumán lemons onto the North American market and the food safety and high quality attributes of Tucumán-grown fruit.
Sallyards has also met with representatives of the Tucumán Citrus Association as well as local business players and government representatives, according to a report by La Gaceta.
Sallyards will remain in the region until Thursday together with the USDA coordinator for the production sectors in Argentina, Paraguay and Uruguay, María Julia Balbi.
