PMA Fresh Connections

Two different aspects of the US fresh produce industry will be under the spotlight at upcoming events later this month, with the Produce Marketing Association's (PMA) Fresh Connections meeting and the Florida Citrus Industry's annual conference.

PMA Fresh Connections, which takes place in Philadelphia on 24 June, will see a focus on the Produce Traceability Initiative (PTI) – the fresh produce industry's national plan to achieve chain-wide traceability.

At the event, Gary Fleming of the PMA will review the initiative's action plan, while also introducing new best practices and tools to help delegates implement the traceability plan at their own companies.

'Produce traceability is a very important topic and is receiving a lot of attention from industry, from government and from consumers,' Mr Fleming said in a press statement. 'The PTI's action plan can help address the concerns from these key stakeholders and restore confidence in produce food safety, in addition to the business standardisation efficiencies it offers.'

Meanwhile, the 25 June will see the Florida Citrus Industry's annual conference take place at the Coconut Point Hyatt in Bonita Springs, with over 500 citrus industry representatives expected to attend.

The event will be made up of educational sessions covering a range of key topics such as the battle against citrus greening disease, and also features Florida Citrus Mutual CEO Mike Sparks' 'State of the Citrus Industry' speech.
